History & Heritage
Located on Busan’s South Harbor, Jagalchi derives its name from "jagal" (coastal gravel). It became an iconic symbol of endurance during the Korean War, when resilient women ("Jagalchi Ajumma") sold freshly landed catches to support refugee families.
The first floor houses hundreds of saltwater tanks teeming with live flounder, king crab, sea cucumbers, and giant octopus.
Visitors pick their seafood directly from vendors, which is expertly prepared into sashimi (hwe) and taken upstairs to be enjoyed with spicy maeuntang stew.
