History & Heritage
Perched above Tongyeong’s historic harbor, Dongpirang was slated for demolition in 2007 until local artists and activists painted its alleyways with vibrant storytelling murals.
Originally the site of Dongporu, the eastern sentry pavilion of the Three Provinces Naval Headquarters founded in 1604.
In 2007, murals painted by art students halted demolition plans and revitalized the local coastal community.
