History & Heritage
Erected in 1969 as Korea’s first general broadcasting transmission tower and opened to visitors in 1980, N Seoul Tower stands atop Mount Namsan. Its LED spire illuminates the night sky in colors reflecting Seoul’s daily fine dust air quality.
Originally constructed for transmission of major national broadcasting networks, the tower underwent a comprehensive high-tech redesign in 2005.
Its famous lighting code alerts citizens to air quality: Blue indicates pristine clear air (PM2.5 under 15), Green means moderate, and Red advises staying indoors.

- Private cars and regular taxis are prohibited from driving to the mountaintop; use the eco-shuttle bus (01A/01B), the cable car, or hike.
- Walking up through Namsan Park takes 30–40 minutes on scenic paved wooden boardwalks and is entirely free.
