History & Heritage
Bukchon ("North Village") is situated north of Cheonggyecheon stream and Jongno. Historically the prestigious quarter of Joseon high-ranking officials and nobility (Yangban), it now features living heritage workshops, tea salons, and iconic alley views framing Seoul’s modern skyline.
In the 1930s, Korean developer Jeong Se-gwon subdivided large estates to construct standardized "urban hanoks", preserving Korean cultural autonomy and housing against colonial urban pressures.
Today, strict "Quiet Hours" and visitor zoning are enforced by Jongno-gu to ensure harmony between cultural tourism and residential quality of life.
