History & Heritage
Perched on the bluffs of the Namgang River, this 1.7km stone fortress guarded the granaries of Honam and served as the administrative capital of Gyeongsangnam-do until 1925.
In October 1592, General Kim Si-min held the fortress against 20,000 samurai invaders, securing southern Korea.
In the tragic 1593 siege, patriotic heroine Nongae lured an enemy commander to Uiam Rock, plunging together into the swirling river.
