History & Heritage

Forming the geological heart of Jeju Island, Mount Hallasan is a massive shield volcano with a gentle gradient. Its name translates poetically to "a mountain high enough to grasp the Milky Way." It preserves distinct vertical climate zones from subtropical to alpine tundra.

Only two trails reach the summit crater rim: Seongpanak (9.6km) and Gwaneumsa (8.7km), both requiring free prior online registration to protect trail ecology.

The Yeongsil (5.8km) and Eorimok (6.8km) trails offer accessible scenic day hikes through alpine azalea plateaus without reservation requirements.
