Resting between the Taebaek Mountains and the deep blue East Sea, Gangneung harmonizes deep literary history with modern lifestyle culture. Gyeongpodae Pavilion dates from 1326, while Anmok Beach evolved into the nation’s coffee mecca.

Poets celebrated Gyeongpodae for the romantic motif of the "Five Moons": one in the sky, one in the lake, one in the sea, one in the wine cup, and one in the eyes of one’s beloved.

Anmok’s coffee legacy started with custom vending machines in the 1980s before Korea’s pioneering master baristas established independent seaside roasteries that transformed the coast.
