Two people who arrived on the same day may not have the same health-insurance situation. Prepare your employment, residence and household circumstances before applying a statement you found online to yourself.

What the official guidance distinguishes

NHIS presents employed-insured coverage separately from resident/self-employed guidance for foreigners. Its English page also contains historical student-transition material. For that reason, this guide deliberately does not present a single six-month rule as the current answer for every worker, student, dependent or residence status.

Prepare a coverage enquiry

Write down the relevant arrival and departure dates, your current status, whether you work and the date employment began or ended. If you received an NHIS notice, keep its date and the period it concerns. Explain whether you are asking about your own coverage, dependent status, a household bill or a change between arrangements. Do not post identifying numbers publicly.

Ask NHIS which category applies, the effective date, whether any action is required and which documents establish your circumstances. If you already have other insurance, ask whether and how that matters instead of assuming it automatically replaces NHIS.

Resolve conflicting information

If your employer, an old webpage and a recent notice appear inconsistent, present the dates and documents to NHIS. Request clarification of the current basis and what to do next. A page's old example or a friend's experience is not evidence of your own exemption.
