What to confirm before reporting an address change in Korea

Prepare a case-specific enquiry about your registration category, responsible office and reporting route. This guide is not a universal address-reporting document checklist.

Identify the reporting system that applies to you

Changing your address is more than updating a delivery app. Start by identifying your registration category and the government record that needs updating. Do not assume that every foreign resident follows the same procedure.

What the cited law says

Article 36 of the Immigration Act, in the version effective 23 January 2026, sets a 15-day move-reporting requirement for foreigners registered under article 31. It identifies the relevant local

Article 36(2) addresses submission of the foreigner registration card and recording the change on it. Paragraph 8 provides a specific electronic-window provision for holders of a mobile foreigner registration card. This does not establish that every person or housing arrangement can complete the report online.

Prepare a case-specific enquiry

Record the actual move-in date, the new address exactly as written in Korean and your registration category. Explain whether you rent directly, live with a host, use employer accommodation or have another arrangement. Ask the competent

Ask whether you may use an online route, whether a representative can act, and what original documents or identification the chosen route requires. If a deadline may already have passed, seek advice promptly rather than changing dates in your records.

Keep confirmation

After using the official route, retain its acknowledgement or other completion evidence. Check the recorded address and ask how to correct an error. Do not treat a household member's report, a postal forwarding request or a change in a private company's system as automatic confirmation that your own immigration record changed.

Confirm the checklist for your registration category with the responsible office. This preparation guide does not provide a universal fee, reservation rule or supporting-document list.

Caution: Please verify directly with the official responsible authority for latest requirements.
